Thankfully, I had screenshots of these notes. (so I lost about an hour’s worth of writing). When I got home at 3:00 p.m., the Simplenote note 20230304 says it was last synced and updated at 11:30 a.m. I have screenshots of the note 20230304 at 12:30 p.m. Regrettably, I never took screenshots of that writing since it was now in two places (I assumed that was sufficient backup).īy time I got home from the event, Simplenote failed to sync most of the remaining content I would write that morning (this is not including the chunk of writing it mistakenly assigned to another note). I copy-pasted the missing content back into my working note (20230304), but I never deleted it from the incorrect note because I wanted to check the time stamp later on. When I searched for a keyword in the quote, I found all of the missing content in a completely unrelated note (note 20230303). I scrolled up within my note to factcheck a quote with someone and realized half of the things I’d written had gone missing from that note. But just in case something was up, I started taking screenshots of what I was writing to prevent data loss.įast forward to an important event I was covering last Saturday (note 20230304). Thinking I must have accidentally done it myself, I continued to use the app for work. I thought I’d lost the content until I found it in another recent note I’d written. Twice in the past month, some of the content I had written in my active event note synced with a different note (not all of it, just about half of it). I always create a separate note for every event, the title being the date. I’m a journalist, and I use the app for work on a daily basis. After nearly 8 years, I am sorry to say I can no longer recommend this app.
